I had a visitor from Nigeria, I think,
come through my blog here
posing as one Kathy Lagoli
asking me if I would be willing to
discuss something on the telephone.
What exactly would that be, Ms. Lagoli?
Let's just get to it.
Might it involve account numbers?
There's nothing to steal here, friend.
Feel free to comment on a post though,
and thanks for coming by!

ReplyDeleteWow, ah, I have a guitar on kijiji for sale, and I got am email from Kathy Lagoli asking "Would you be able to discuss this on the phone ?" Kathy
ReplyDeleteI am a little bit confused and shocked......
Same here. Kathy, I'm not biting :)
ReplyDeleteI recieved an email today saying the same thing: "Would you be able to discuss this on the phone ?" Kathy
ReplyDeleteI think she wanted to talk about my writing and excited, I gave her my number. Seeing these posts worry me, and have me wondering if its a scam. I guess Ill let everyone knows how it turns out. Worse case senario some poser has my number. Worse things have happend. Wish me luck!

OK, so I just got THE EXACT SAME note from Kathy Lagoli. I wrote back asking who she is and what she wants. No reply yet.
ReplyDeleteShe put my blogspot blog in the subject line. Now, my blog concerns AIDS Denialism..people who deny HIV causes AIDS. So I get a bunch of nut mail. As I routinely do, I Googled her.and this blog popped first. Sure looks like Phishing to me. I bet getting phone numbers from Blogspot bloggers is the goal...and then who knows what..
So thanks for posting here..could save someone the hassle if they search her first before replying!
This happened to me, too!
ReplyDeleteI also have a Blogger site, & received a message from her with my last post as the subject line. And just like everyone else here, same message: "Hello,Would you be available to discuss this on the phone ?
kathy" I found this post when I looked her up online! So obviously it's a scam.
thnx ppl....i got t xact email today...i thot she wanted to discuss t poems on m blog...bt luks lik it wasn so...wish thes ppl wud at least com up wit somthn new....this spam crap s gettin old...either its kathy or somone from burkina faaso...man i hate it...
ReplyDeleteI just received the same e-mail - strange that this comes after getting e-mailed by Chase and Ameriprise that someone broke into their accounts and retrieved e-mails!!
ReplyDeleteI'm a poet and I just got an email from a Kathy Lagoli. She has been reading my poetry on my website, and is now asking if I would be able to talk about one of my poems with her over the phone. I don't think so. She could ask me some questions about my work over the computer.
ReplyDeleteI got this one too. Seriously, thanks for posting this. I Googled her name and this is one of the first things that came up. I'm going to write a post tomorrow. I wrote her back asking her what it pertained to so maybe she'll give me an interesting response.
ReplyDeleteThe sad thing is, she can probably get a lot of phone numbers right off the bat doing this. My suggestion would be that everyone who got this e-mail post about it so that there are less people she is able to scam.
Hi there,
ReplyDeleteI got a similar email, but I did not give my phone number. Right away I thought it was a scam.
Glad someone posted about this situation.
Rebecca G.
Me too! Thanks for posting it. I googled her and found this. Off to pass it along
ReplyDeletei just got that email this morning too! I'm glad I googled her name and came across this, it has been bugging me all morning. lol. It is most likely a scam!
ReplyDeleteI just got the same email from Kathy but with my model mayhem name in the subject line. I was thinking she may have been replying back from a casting I posted. Ugh! Scammers!!!!
ReplyDeleteI just go a message from Kathy about one of my foster dogs that she saw on adopt a pet....I responded with my phone number:( Great.....:(
ReplyDeleteWow, where did all of you writers come from? nice to see you here on my blog! What a great scam though appealing to writers and their desire to be read. I jumped too, half believing it was someone curious about my blog/writing. Looks like we foled them this time All for one, and one for all!!!
ReplyDeleteWhat should I do I have that emailand I gave "Kathy" my Number what can it do??
ReplyDeleteI don't know DJ. Be careful with anyone calling and asking for personal info, credit card numbers, account numbers, etc..
ReplyDeleteI got 2 emails from kathy lagoni today....the subject line is a topic from someone's blog i commented on (a giveaway post where i had to include my email address..... email 1
ReplyDelete"Kathy Lagoli"
Hello,
Would you be available to discuss this on the phone ?
kathy
email 2 -
Kathy Lagoli"
Hello,
Hey didn't hear back from you, are you still in business ?
kathy
Could this be a stalker?? Or should I be worried about phone tracking?
ReplyDeleteThink it might be someone laying the ground work for one of those infamous Nigerian spam scams. There's lots of them out there. I'm no computer genius, but I think you should be okay if you don't give out any critical financial or personal information. Worst case scenario, you just change your phone number. This has probably gone out world wide.
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad I found this blog....got the same email and posted about it on my blog...TONS of people have gotten the same email. Maybe we should report this to Blogger?
ReplyDeleteI got this email to, the subject line was from my blog good thing I google first before I replied.
ReplyDeleteI too should have googled first before I replied. But having googled her name, I discovered that many others had received the same email. I then put it on my blog as well. And going by traffic feed, hundreds of people are googling the name Kathy Lagoli
ReplyDeleteI ready about your blog on another website then checked my spam email and Kathy would like to discuss my blog over the phone...Do you think I should give her my number?!?! :) haha...Spammers SUCK!!
ReplyDeleteWhat if you r phone number is on your site in your info and the email said she hadnt heard back from me and wanted to know if I was still in business. This sucks!! I just got this phone! :(
ReplyDeleteI just got a Kathy Lagoli email ... right after a blog post about the AIDS denialists at AAPS. I smell a connection!!!
ReplyDelete:D
I just received an email from Kathy. In the subject line was my blog name and the name of a missing person. Kathy asked "is it still available?" My blog is Missing Loved Ones of Illinois so I have to wonder is WHAT still available. Kathy get a life!
ReplyDeletesame with me here, but does anything bad happen after receiving email from her or after u replied & gave her ur number?
ReplyDeleteHey! Thanks so much for this! I have also just received an email with the subject line from my blog. Thanks for the heads up. Other websites on our dear Kathy say to change your blog and email passwords to. Just to be cautious?
ReplyDelete-http://gettingontherunway.blogspot.com-
I got the same message. this Kathy is a rock star. I would love to speak with her. I sent my phone number. I don't care that much because I'm broke anyway. nothing bad had happened so far. apparently she likes writers. maybe she is bored. in a way it's neat. we should form a club! if you are bored and like sloppy writing, my site is www.cloroxpeach.com or @gadgetgreen on twitter. cheers, m
ReplyDeleteI guess I owe Kathy some thanks. She brought so many visitors to my blog over the last few days from all over the world. Thanks to everyone who came by, looked around and left a comment!
ReplyDeleteHi Glen and others!
ReplyDeletePhilippines checking in here.....I have received a few messages from Kathy Legoli in the past few days as well, just got another one this morning. The original messages were written as though they were a response to a Yahoo Answers thread I had been a part of (asking where to buy a product in the Philippines) and her name was very similiar to the girl's name that I had been replying to on Yahoo....so I replied! =( She never asked for a phone number, though, so my reply was pretty generic. I told her where to buy the product, and said that if she lived in a rural area without access to the stores, I would buy it and mail it to her. (But I gave her none of my personal information.)
Got an email from her a few minutes ago saying, "Sorry, I think I have the wrong email." Very strange indeed.
Have a great weekend everyone! =)
Thanks for checking in Tricia! It's great to hear from the Philippines!
