21. Dining Alone

The man saying those bad things to you
is you, you tell yourself,
and that's a partial truth, but your white lie is forgivable
because taking control of it is the only way to cure it,
and you have to believe cure is possible.

There's a pound of ground beef sizzling
in the frying pan.
I smell meat and fire.
It makes me want to kill with my teeth.

You can get lost down this column of days and nights,
waiting for something,
being the unrecognized Prince,
it ain't long - the time - and you can get lost.

But it's so goddamn long,
too long to wait.
I'm going to kill something with my teeth.
